Foundations (Backing up)

Hi all,

I was a high school football player. I wasn’t that great, but I was good enough to go through the college recruiting dance. Part of that dance was attending summer football camps between my junior and senior years. When I went to Vanderbilt’s camp, I had the opportunity to meet Doc Kries, at the time considered the finest strength coach in the game, and I asked him the key question of every guy who has ever worried about getting strong. “What happens when you get stuck? What happens when you plateau out and can’t get any stronger?”

He said, “Back up. Back up and hit it again. Drop thirty or fifty pounds and work your way back up. You’ll blow right through your plateau.”
